Hello! My name is Molly Onken, and I am the owner of Happy Dog Country Clips in Round Lake, MN.
The idea for Happy Dog Country Clips and Kennels was first realized in part because I had nowhere to take my precious babies where I thought was appropriate and where they would feel most comfortable. I first started the Clips portion of the business in the basement of my home because I was tired of seeing neglected farm dogs, so I began taking on local dogs that other grooming businesses refused to take. I then began to groom with more specialized needs in mind, such as fancy haircuts for Poodles, Bichons, and Shih Tzus, etc.
Next came the Kennels portion of the business. My husband and I thought it was time to expand when so many of my grooming clients mentioned how nice it would be to have a place where they felt comfortable leaving their family members, that wasn’t scary or stressful. With my husband’s help, we designed a floor plan and an overall goal to create a home-away-from-home for other four-legged family members. The building is bright, airy, and open, with heating coming from under the floor, so even those dogs who refuse to lie on blankets won’t be lying on a cold floor. There are plants, stuffed animals, and a radio going at all times, and the boarders are taken (by hand, no less) out to outdoor kennels for potty time, or walked around a spacious backyard area if going potty in kennels isn’t their thing.
Unfortunately, as of November 25, 2025, I made the difficult decision to close the kennel portion of my business. Grooming services are still available. Thank you to my customers who’ve become friends for your 20+ years of support!
